A.) PODCAT NOTE:
1.) B.Shover joins us in a running dialogue. The man has reached his goal of being able to jump into a 5k cold, minimal running training. He is generally physically prepared if there ever’s been a man who was!
B.) POST PODCAST DISCUSSION ON “TACTICAL EMPATHY”
Me and B. And B.Shover sit down for an iced coffee and discuss tactics we find effective in conversation.
Per the suggestion of Max Liles, I’ve been listening to Chris’ Voss’ book that he wrote from his experience as a hostage negotiator.
He pointed out a really unique insight.
Most People don’t want a super clear to follow logical case presented to them. Not at first, at least.
They have to trust you first. (That makes sense, because anyone can be logical, especially evil masterminds, to use a crude example)
They have to connect to you and feel understood.
B.Shover was like, yeah,
“That’s called tactical empathy.
nailed it.
Therefore, if you show a person that you understand them, that youre listening to them, that you understand their needs and motivations and pains, they might actually trust you enough to list.
Maybe they will trust you enough in time to change.
Maybe you might change too.
