the key with Epictetus is to realize that he’s not shaming you for being weak. he’s shaming you because he knows how strong you are. maybe some would choose a slightly different tact. but he is cutting to the chase trying to get you to realize that you are miraculous. a child of God. and that the very things that are the most difficult in your life are also the thing that are going to create a shining character if you let them. he acknowledges, you will be far from perfect.
the only requirement, is a little bit of progress along the way.
